It’s bad news for Tamil films. Film Distributors Association Kerala (FDAK) has decided not to allow any non-Malayalam movie to release simultaneously with the all India release from May 1 this year.

This decision which will hit hard Tamil film industry more than any others is taken according to the Kerala film body to protect small Malayalam films in Kerala. It may be noted that in the past few months non-Malayalam films like Avatar, Vinnaithandi Varuvaya, Vettaikkaran, 3 Idiots were the films which did fantastic business at the box-office in Kerala. Particularly Tamil films have a huge following in Kerala as much as for Malayalam if not more.

Vijay’s ‘Sura’ is releasing worldwide on May 1. But with the new decision of FDAK, it cannot have a simultaneous release in Kerala. It can release in Kerala only two weeks after its worldwide release.
